And it all began… /2010/01/and-it-all-began/ /2010/01/and-it-all-began/#respond Fri, 22 Jan 2010 17:35:53 +0000 /wordpress/?p=129 The Tassel Club started in Ireland in 2003 and continues to be an ever evolving group of performers who create unique vintage inspired vaudeville, burlesque cabaret shows.

The company was started by journalist and production manager Sara Colohan in 2003. Inspired by a bygone era, Sara produces a string of sell out shows every few months to showcase the club’s unique acts including a Can Can troupe, contortionists and vintage burlesque striptease performers along with bands, singers and comedians.

“I became aware of Neo Burlesque partly because of my fashion background, (working as a stylist I’m constantly looking for new styles and trends) and partly because of my waning interest in club culture.
I was a club DJ for most of the 90’s and I just got bored of club culture and techno (event though I never thought that could happen) So I was on the look out for an alternative form of entertainment.

I heard about Burlesque when I was in london in 03 and went to a small show called The Whoopee Club. I was captivated. Neo Burlesque has emerged from the worlds coolest clubs in a colourful, tongue in cheek haze of retro chic. I ventured into this ‘other realm’ as a voyeur and emerged hooked, enthralled and determined to bring this Burlesque party to Dublin, in all its feathered glory!! Within 3 weeks of seeing a show in london I held the first Tassel Club in Dublin. Now, in 2010 we are back in London with three sell out shows and a performers agency! Dreams certainly do come true!”
